Cross stitch: Liberbee

THE SILVER NEEDLE - LIBERBEE JUNE 2005

Purchased off ebay I stitched this for a friends birthday. It was a nice / not too nasty way of making fun of the way she says liberty. She took it the way it was intended.

The kit came with the bee buttons, flag, star, gold ribbon, fabric and floss. I purchased the striped trim ribbon at a Clegs sale - they're really to expensive to buy from often so sales are the way to go and the box from a local craft shop. I messed up the count on the bee hive but it still came out looking nice so I'm not kicking myself too much for my lack of numeracy skills. Also there was hot glue everywhere when I was sticking it all together - much fun.

how do I get this picture to rotate...AGH!

I got this kit in a bulk lot I brought of ebay and promptly threw it on the pile and forgot about it. Fast forward a few months and I'm finally cleaning all my rubbish off the living room table and in the process unearthed this gem.

Only one problem... I had the free kit part that had originally come with a magazine but not the magazine containing the chart.

Here is where I am eternally grateful that we live in the time of the Internets as 30minites on Google revealed to me not only could I download the chart but it was FREE! So happy! Only downside (if you can call it that) the cleaning for that day completely ceased.

And to add to the feeling of fate a couple of days before I'd unearthed the kit I'd see the perfect frame in a local shop. A weekend or so of stitching, a walk down the street and there you have it. The cutest teddy ever sitting on my
book(dvd)shelf.

Unfortunately this is the best picture I have of this one. I gave it to a coworker as a pick me up because she used this statement often but I really don’t know if she actually liked it. I've always felt I should have just kept it.

I never really felt the need to do a dolly mamas cross stitch but this one felt right at the time. If I'd realised how many french knots it needed I might have had second thoughts. I actually finished the cross stitch part for a month before I worked up the nerve to finish all the french knots.

In the end I was happy with the work.

I Heart your brain

Valentines Day!!! And yes, yes I do love you for your brains!
Okay I'm pretty sure this pattern originally came from etsy? maybe? really etsy is all I’ve got. If anyone knows let me know so I can credit the cute. I modified it a little but only in a superficial way. The colours came from left over floss from other projects.

It was a crazy time for me with work dragging me up to Canberra and back for two consecutive weeks. So this was made up for my boyfriend in the little bit of time I managed to have at home. (missed the actual valentines day - this had to be gifted prior while I was still in the right state)

I turned it into a (very rough) card pouch for a Myki. For those who don't know a Myki is a public transport ticket card used in Melbourne, very romantic I know. I couldn't find a press stud so once again cannibalised one from something else. This time it was a power puff girl wrist cuff - I liked it but needs must and I'm a bit old for the power puff girls. Once I gouged the stud off the cuff it wouldn’t go back together properly. I bashed it with a meat mallet until it was crushed back together in some semblance of a functioning press stud. Like I said it was a very rough finishing job.

So, the finished product;

Wish

Wish by Dimensions

I stitched this one for a friend as I thought the silhouette looked a lot like her son. I hated it almost the entire time I was stitching it. Less so by the time I'd completed it but I was still iffy if I liked it or not.

My friend liked it and that's all that matters in the end.
